AMORY ON THE BEACH
Amory went to the beach. Shutters of the houses in a small backstreet were still closed. A gentle breeze was blowing between the walls and brought the scent of the sea. When he walked out of the alleyway into the rising sun, he lifted the collar of his jacket. He took a deep breath, took his time and searched for the flattest stone on the cliffs. He sat down. He leaned his legs against the rock and listened to the sound of water that was approaching the beach under the stones with a comforting murmur. That´s how every day should start, he thought, and he had to admit it had been a real while since he last had such a nice start to his day. The sun was becoming stronger and warmed up his hands and face. Water was reflecting rays of the rising sun directly towards the shore. It was a beautiful day. He had tried to buy a little bit of happiness and contentedness in the previous weeks. How deep had he dug in his bank account because of that! How many nights had he wondered, drunk, aimlessly through the town and now he sensed the feeling of happiness without paying a single cent. The life is beautiful.
